Short Bio
Maria Angeles Martín Arribas is Tenured Scientist at the Institute of Food Science, Technology and Nutrition (ICTAN) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). She obtained her B.S. degree in Biology from the University Complutense of Madrid in 1991 and her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the same university in 1995. She started I started her research career in the Institute of Biochemistry (IB, CSIC-UCM) in the Endocrinology and Metabolism Group. In 2005, she moved to the ICTAN (CSIC) and joined to the Metabolism and Bioactivity of Phytochemicals Group. Since 2007, she participate as a Researcher at the Centro de Investigación Biomédicas en Red de Diabetes y Enfermedades Metabólicas Asociadas (CIBERDEM), which brings together 30 top Spanish Research Groups in the field of diabetes and associated diseases.
Her research activity is focused on the study of natural bioactive compounds, mainly polyphenols, with favourable effects against diseases associated with oxidative stress and inflammation, with special attention on diabetes and its complications associated. Her interest is also focused on the characterization of the specific molecular mechanisms involved in the beneficial effects of these compounds including their relationship with gut microbiome and their potential impact in metabolome.
