Luis Goya Suárez
Research Investigator
Research Groups: Metabolismo y bioactividad de fitoquímicos (BIOCELL)
Department: Department of Metabolism and Nutrition
Short Bio
PhD with extraordinary award in Pharmacy School at the University Complutense from Madrid in 1987. After a four-year postdoctoral research stay in the University of California at Berkeley, he returned to Spain in 1993 to the Institute of Biochemistry (CSIC-UCM), where he studied regulation of the insulin-like growth factors (IGF) system by nutrients. For these and previous studies, the research group received the Reina Sofía National Award in 1994 on research focused on prevention of deficiencies. He is currently a CSIC-affiliated research investigator at the Department of Metabolism and Nutrition in the Institute of Food Science and Technology and Nutrition (ICTAN), within the group of Metabolism and Bioactivity of Phytochemicals (acronym BIOCELL) where he is studying the biochemical and molecular mechanisms of action of bioactive compounds from the diet. He has published around 140 SCI-indexed articles, most of them included in the first quartile of the research fields of biomedicine, molecular biology, pharmacology, toxicology and nutritional biochemistry. He was responsible/coordinator of the SEBBM group on Molecular Basis of Pathology from 2013 to 2016. He is currently a member of the scientific committee of the Observatory of Cocoa along with Doctors Ramón Estruch and María Izquierdo Pulido since 2015; member of the editorial board of the scientific journal Food Research International of the Canadian Institute of Food Science and Technology since 29016 and his h index is 39.
