Delivery of the DANONE INSTITUTE PRIZE to the Scientific Career “Dr. Carles Martí Henneberg” to Prof. Marcos

On 18th December 2014, at the Royal Academy of Medicine in Madrid, the delivery of Awards granted by the Danone Institute (http://www.institutodanone.es/) was held, which is named Dr. Carles Martí Henneberg due to he was a prominent member of the Danone Institute since its foundation. This institution is chaired by Prof. Luis Moreno Aznar, which convenes the award every year since 1994 and rewards outstanding Spanish researchers in basic research, epidemiology, clinical or technology in the field of nutrition and health.

The award honored the research background and the role of the Professor Marcos as a pioneer in Spain in the study of the relationship between different nutrients, bioactive compounds and functional foods with the immune system. In this case, the Danone Institute has awarded the Director of the Immunonutrition Reasearch Group of the Institute of Food Science, Technology and Nutrition (ICTAN) for her extensive and extraordinary researcher and academic work in the field of Immunonutrition. She has developed numerous studies in order to establish the particular conditions of the immune system in situations of malnutrition. These studies have had a great impact to try to understand what are the biomarkers and other factors linked to increasingly widespread diseases in industrialized countries, such as eating disorders, overweight and obesity, celiac disease or intolerances and allergies.
