Olive oil and sugary drinks tasting on the second day of activities at the CSIC Science Week at ICTAN

During the second day of activities on the occasion of the CSIC Science Week at the Institute of Food Science and Technology and Nutrition, the following activities were carried out:

– ‘Discover the secrets of olive oil: a journey of flavour and health’ by Raquel Mateos and Tatiana Pintado where they taught the students of IES Ciudad Escolar the benefits of consuming extra virgin olive oil, how it is obtained and its characteristics. In addition, they were able to experience a guided tasting with 3 types of olive oil to integrate the role of sensory analysis and detect their differences.

How much sugar is in my drink? By María Estela de la Vega, Beatriz Diaz and Inmaculada Álvarez have once again given a workshop to the students of IES Ciudad Escolar on how much sugar is in the soft drinks we consume. Likewise, through a blind tasting of 6 soft drinks they have been able to deal with topics such as the sensation of sweetness, sweeteners, sugar, stimulants and the legislation or dangers for the body that the abusive consumption of this type of beverages entails.
