DESCRIPTION

Objectives: Our research is aimed at better understanding the benefitial properties to human health of dietary plant polyphenols. To do this we focus on the study of polyphenols bioavailability and metabolism, their antioxidant properties and their effects at inflammation and cardiovascular level.

Research Lines:

  • Anthocyanins and derived compounds: effects on markers of inflammation and cardiovascular disease
  • Interactions between polyphenols and other bioactive compounds present in the human diet

Skills:

  • Cellular models of: inflammation, endothelial function, visual and neuronal functions and intestinal absorption.
  • Chromatographic thecniques (HPLC-DAD, LC-MS & LC-MS/MS) for the analysis of polyphenols in foods and biological tissues and fluids. Metabolite identification.
  • Antioxidant capacity (ORAC, ABTS, FRAP, DPPH, TBARS) in foods and biological tissues and fluids.
  • Biochemical (ELISA, NO, etc) and Molecular biology (Western-blot and quantitative RT-PCR) techniques.
